     Dear readers of the IJBEM,

This issue of the Journal is a special issue related to the themes of the high-resolution EEG, the realistic head modelling and the estimation of brain functional connectivity.

The idea of such special issue was generated at the EMBC2005 Conference in Shangai by the Editor in Chief of the Journal, Jaakko Malmivuo. The high-quality researchers contacted for this purpose, that you will find in the Author's list of this special issue, gave their support providing exciting papers related to the issue's theme. I think that the scientific ideas and the facts conveyed by these papers are of high quality.

The strengths of this special issue are also that it gives an updated view on the ongoing work on several leading laboratories in the field of the high-resolution EEG. In fact, due to the high quality of the papers provided, and also to the speed of the two peer-reviews rounds generated for this special issue, the papers you will find here have been submitted as initial manuscripts not before than November 2005.

I would like to thank the Editor in Chief and the secretary of the IJBEM Pasi Kauppinen for the help they gave me for the generation of this special issue and the colleagues that have provided the interesting scientific material you will find in the next pages.

Best Regards

Fabio Babiloni

Rome, 4 April 2006
